International pickup truck
I ran across this 1943 International Pickup Truck at the Wisconsin International Raceway Tech and Tune day for drag racing. It was pretty obviously what caught my eye when seeing this Rat Rod style truck and it was the massive generator engine that was in the bay of this International pickup truck.
I talked to the owner of this International Pickup truck and he said that the project took a year of collecting parts and about 8 months of hard core assembly of this truck. He said that he found the Deutz A8L714 generator engine in a junkyard and bought it. He did some research and found out it was a generator that was being used at a hospital, and it only had 80 hours on the engine. It had been sitting for a long time but only needed a new set of injectors to get it up and running again.
The owner also said that the front and rear frame & axle are from a motorhome and the clutch and transmission is a custom fabrication that he did to mate it to a GM manual transmission. This International Pickup Truck gets over 20 mile the the gallon while hauling a trailer and it gets up to about 70 mph cruising speed. As you can see in the video it is pretty slow on the drag strip but with it being a generator as an engine it will only rev to about 2,000 rpm max. All in all it is a pretty cool addition to the drag strip and it is fun to see vehicles like this come out of the wood works and show something different and great fabrication to a vehicle.
